Mel
Mel is the only cat we ever adopted on purpose. Well... almost on purpose. Our son had been studying nonfiction books about cat breeds and decided he wanted a Scottish Fold. When we discovered two adult Scottish Folds available for adoption nearby, it felt like fate. They had been rescued as kittens but had been overlooked time and time again because they were different.
We went to meet her sister, but Mel decided we were hers. The connection was immediate.
To say Mel is the perfect cat is an understatement. She's funny, sweet, full of personality, and gets along with everyone. She was our first big cat, and she made us fall in love with them. More importantly, she helped us realize that the pet furniture market wasn't designed with 20+ pound cats in mind.
Scrappy
Scrappy first came to us in 2020 as a tiny bottle baby who needed extra help. He was always the sweetest, and we loved him dearly.
Saying goodbye was one of the hardest goodbyes, but little did we know it was really just a “see you later.” He and Kaleigh were adopted together in October 2020. Their family loved them, but sometimes life changes, and they returned to our care in 2024.
We were not planning to add more cats to our family, but Scrappy had other plans. The moment the carrier door opened, he greeted us with kisses and head bonks. He remembered us, remembered his home, and made it very clear — he was home.
Today, Scrappy is our big boy with an even bigger personality. He loves attention, is never far away, and has taken on the important job of product tester for Melly Moo’s.
Kaleigh
Kaleigh brings a certain levity to our home. She is beautiful, funny, talkative, and honestly a little clueless in the most endearing way. She loves kicker toys and lounging on cardboard scratchers—even though they rarely survive more than a few weeks.
When Kaleigh came back to us, she was at a very well-loved weight. Today she is much healthier, but she is still bigger than your average cat. One of our "aha" moments came as we watched her look sadly at yet another cardboard scratcher that had collapsed, waiting for us to fix it for her. Cat scratchers simply aren't built for cats like Kaleigh.
That moment helped turn Melly Moo's from an idea into a mission: creating products that cats like Kaleigh can truly enjoy. The Kaleigh is still in development, but her prototype is going strong after months of use.
Peggy Sue
There are no words to fully describe Peggy Sue or what she meant to us. She was a sweet old soul who had been discarded for a couch—yes, a couch. When we found each other, she was grieving. We gave her a safe, peaceful place to rest, and she decided it was home.
In true Siamese fashion, Peggy Sue ruled the house from the dining room table. She was the boss, and everyone knew it. She expected treats, canned food, and unlimited access to the catio—and somehow always got her way.
Peggy Sue was with us for only four short years, but the hole she left behind is immeasurable. Her sassy spirit inspired Our Life Together, because every cat—even our senior companions—has a story worth remembering.
